Posted by: | CommentsAre Your Hormones Making You Fat?
As women we know that hormones can cause strong reactions in our body. We can have mood swings, water retention, PMS, hormones cause us to go into labor, and also cause us to love deeply. Did you know that when those hormones get out of balance we store that unwanted belly fat? As women when our testosterone becomes elevated it makes fat loss nearly impossible. High testosterone can also cause other unwanted symptoms like hot flashes and unwanted facial hair. A similar reaction in men will happen when estrogen levels become elevated. For a man, high estrogen levels can cause erectile dysfunction, increase in breast tissue, and that unwanted belly fat. Our sex hormones have a strong influence on losing weight. Once hormone imbalances are found in our office and corrected, fat loss becomes easier. Every person’s physiology is different so it is extremely important to have the appropriate lab testing done to have the correct approach to balancing the mechanisms causing your hormone imbalance. Get tested today and take charge of your health to live a more enjoyable life.
Not Yout Typical Type 2 Diabetic

In our office we see patients with blood sugar imbalances. Many of the individuals are not your typical Type 2 diabetic. They eat well, exercise regularly, and are within a normal weight but they still are struggling with blood sugar issues. If type 2 diabetes was just about being overweight, then why doesn’t every overweight person have diabetes and why is there an increase in skinny diabetics? This is what makes our office unique. We do multiple types of testing to find the root cause of each individual’s driving mechanism for their disease process. That is one of the things that makes our office different, it’s not the typical one size fits all protocol. What are you waiting for? Give our office a call today, and start taking control of your disease instead of it ruling every area of your life.
Holidays
Posted by: | CommentsHolidays are suppose to be a joyful time. I find that this time of year can be very stressful for patients. So many people get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holidays and life. The stores are busy and patience is low. The streets are busier, causing delays on the road. The traditional American holiday meal is full of refined sugar and starch, leaving people in a food coma. Just painting this picture is making me feel stressed. Did you know this kind of stress can raise havoc in your body? When we are stressed our adrenal glands (the stress gland) sugars cortisol, making it difficult for your body to regulate blood sugar. If we stay in a stressful state for long periods of time our adrenal glands become exhausted. This causing a decrease in cortisol. Having too little cortisol also makes it difficult for the body to stabilize blood sugar. This is one of the reasons why we test out patients adrenal glands to see how they are functioning. How is your daily stress affecting your body?
In our daily lives we make choices. Find joy and happiness during the holidays. Learn to manage your stress for a stress free holiday. Remember that stress is causing more damage to your body than you realize. Be grateful for everything you have. Start new family traditions that correspond with a healthy lifestyle. When you find joy in life it becomes contagious to everyone that crosses your path. Share your joy to the world and have a healthy holiday.
Insulin Resistance
Posted by: | CommentsInsulin Resistance
Many of our patients are type 2 diabetics and have insulin resistance. We need insulin to get sugar or glucose in to our cells. Our American lifestyle with high stress, refined sugars and starches, with a high intake of caffeine leaves our bodies in a metabolic mess. Living this type of lifestyle causes the insulin receptor site on the cell to becomes less sensitive, not allowing sugar/glucose to get in body. This creates a vicious cycle in the body. The body begins to surge more insulin at high amounts to get sugar into the cell. The receptor sites on the cell become less and less sensitive to the insulin causing high blood sugar; then the body begins surging more insulin to get the job done and get that glucose into the cell. I like to explain this process by using the analogy that the insulin receptor sites are like circuit breakers in your house, when the electricity is too high the circuit shuts down. Too much insulin, it overloads the receptor sites and the have decreased sensitivity creating insulin resistance.
coffee
Posted by: | CommentsCoffee
Have you ever really stopped to think how you really feel after drinking a cup of coffee? Do you get that initial pick me up? Feel awake, energized and happy for a short period of time? Then you become shaky, irritable, have muscle twitches or anxiety. Are you a chronic coffee drinker? Well, that enjoyable morning cup of coffee is creating an induced stress response in your body. It is increasing two stress hormones; Cortisol and epinephrine from your adrenal glands. That daily cup of coffee is putting your adrenal glands into a chronic heightened stress response causing a lower thrush hold for real stress and a shorter fuse. When cortisol and epinephrine are chronically elevated this creates a cascade of metabolic dysfunction. It creates an environment in your body high in inflammation, insulin resistance, a lower pain threshold, excessive urination leading to dehydration, increase in blood pressure, and anxiety. I think all of the negative impacts on your body for that daily cup of coffee do not outweigh that brief morning pick me up. Consider switching that cup of morning coffee for a cup of warm tea.

Posted by: | CommentsType 2 diabetes has become and epidemic in American culture. It is considered a lifestyle disease. My patients continually tell me that their doctors keep telling them to lose weight and change their diet. We look at the person as a whole and we do testing in our office to really see what the driving cause is for their disease. Through our testing we can see where the body is not functioning properly. We have so many success stories because we really get to the root of the cause for the disease process in our patients. We look at each patient as an individual. Daddy’s Words of Wisdom
Posted by: | CommentsMy Daddy always told me as a little girl, “eat healthy now or you’re going to pay for it at the Doctor’s office later in life”. This statement has a lot of truth to it, but I think it needs to be expanded. I think it should say “Eat healthy to give your primer fuel; exercise and get the body moving, limit the amount of stress in your life and be kind to a stranger. “ Otherwise processed food (bad body fuel), no movement, and stress will destroy your body, with an increase of medications and doctor’s visits. What do you do on a daily basis that is costing you a doctor’s visit in the future? Stop for a minute to think if your quick paced, fast-food lifestyle is destroying your body and could be one of the causes for your diabetes. In our office we find out what’s causing your Type 2 Diabetes, and also educate you in how to make healthy lifestyle choices. Written by Dr. Riechert, D.C.
Food Pollution
Posted by: | CommentsI had a patient come in this morning. She was amazed at how food made her feel. For 21 days we have taken out all foods that are inflammatory or that may be filled with chemicals. When we eat food that is polluted our bodies become polluted. We are in her awareness phase; adding foods back into her diet. She was amazed that red meat made her blood sugar increase and made her very agitated. She also felt very sluggish. She couldn’t believe that she used to feel like that every day. Now she is more motivated than before to get healthy, change her lifestyle, and get her diabetes under control. Stories like this make me excited to be a doctor making a difference in the Type 2 Diabetic community.
